Credits on client account

When a client sends a duplicate or overpayment. I am allowed to post the payment as unallocated to a project. If a client would like to apply the credit to a future invoice, how can we use the allocated funds on the next bill from the billing screen?

My current work around is to have the Biller create, finalize the bill and send it to me. Then I manually change the invoice so the balance that shows is less the credit.

I was hoping that we could somehow apply the credit in the Detailed WIP section of Billing, but the credits do not show up as an option or I'm just not seeing it.
